Editorial Policy

Homegadgetguru exists to help everyday homeowners make smarter, safer decisions about smart home technology. This page explains how we research, write, and stand behind what we publish.

Independence

We are reader-first. Our recommendations are based on research and, where we have done it, hands-on use. We do not accept payment to give a product a better review, and a company cannot buy a recommendation. When our view of a product changes, we update the article rather than quietly leave an outdated take in place.

How we research and review

Before we write about a product or a decision, we study how it actually works, what real owners report, and what independent and primary sources say. When we have used a product ourselves, we say so plainly and describe what we did. When we have not, we say that too, and we base our guidance on documented specifications and credible reporting instead of pretending to first-hand experience we do not have.

We aim to be genuinely useful on the trade-offs, including the parts a seller would rather skip: what a device cannot do, where it fails, and when a cheaper or simpler option is the smarter buy.

Accuracy and sources

Safety first

For anything involving your home’s mains electricity or hardwired devices (wired cameras, hardwired alarms, mains-powered lighting), we tell you to hire a licensed professional. Our do-it-yourself guidance covers plug-in and battery-powered devices only.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we want to fix it. Contact us (see the Contact page) and, if a correction is warranted, we will update the article and note that it was changed.
